When life happens. Part 1👇

While growing up as a young girl, my father was out of the country, so it was safe to say that I never really knew him, aside the routine calls that we had. When I was almost 16, my mother started to process her visa to join our father. My brother and I, didnt mind at all. Infact, we supported her. After a while, her visa came through, and it was time for her to leave us. Before she did, we all happily agreed to the decision that our mommy's sister, Aunty Nebby, would move into our house to keep us company, and of course, she would become our guardian.

My brother and I, were very happy about it. We loved our Aunty Nebby.
She was the coolest aunt that we had and her children loved us too, so it was indeed, a match made in heaven. We didnt really know much about our uncle Mark. He never came visiting with his wife and children and when he did, he spent the entire time, talking with my mother so my brother and I, didnt have any sort of relationship with him.
When they officially moved in, I was in SS3 and my brother was in JSS3. It was an easy move, and before too long, they had settled in with us. I dont know about my brother, but I loved having my ever smiling Aunty and my little cousins, around. They made the house really lively.

My Uncle was very busy. He was never around. He left in the morning and came back, late at nights. Sometimes, I could go on for days, without seeing him. Then one day, he came back home by 6pm and he announced to everyone, that he had resigned from work, because, he was tired and stressed out and that was how he went from not being at home, to being around, most times.
It took a while to get used to him, but then, we realised that he was very nice and lovable. Then, he used to pick us up and drop us off at school. He would pick me up later, as I was doing my WAEC/NECO exams. He would always stop by a fast food on his way, and he would get me snacks and ice cream. Infact, he did that every blessed day, for as long as I can remember. He would buy them and give them to me, and I would happily munch on them.

He revised my school work with me and put me through. He was just always there. He would come over to my room at night, to wake me up from sleep, so I could read and he would stay up with me, encouraging me or chatting me up, so I could stay awake. Suffice to say that it wasnt hard for me to love him. Not at all. I only love him as an Uncle and nothing else. That was how we kept on. Everyone began to call me his love. Even my Aunty would jokingly say that she was jealous of how close we were. She would lament on how he had snatched her daughter away from her. I didnt pay attention to it, because, I noticed he was nice to everyon, but he was extremely nice to me. He treated me specially and as a young girl, it just made me feel good.

When life happens. Part 2👇

Few months later, I graduated from secondary school. The plan for me was to do my university degree, abroad, so my father began to process my papers for me to leave Nigeria and join him and my mum over there, which meant that I had to wait. I stayed at home for about a year.
Ofcourse, as soon as the holidays were over, my brother and my cousins went back to school and my Aunty went work. So most times, I would be at home alone.
My Uncle would come home earlier than he would, on the days when he would go out for his business, and on the days he didnt have to, he would go out to drop the others off at school and come back home to stay with me, until it was time to pick them up. Those were my favourite days, because, there was always something for my Uncle and I, to talk about and so he was very good company.

Sometimes, he would buy movies and we would sit together (most times cuddling- though, innocently, from my part) to watch the movies. They were always romantic movies and they were my favourite. It started from cuddling to pulling me close to him until I was literally laid on his body. One day, we were watching one of the movies and they were kissing and taking off their clothes. Normally, when this happened, I would turn my face away from the screen. I was about to do that, when my Uncle pulled me close to him and kissed me. I wont lie, I liked it. I had always wondered what it would feel like and it felt good.

That was the beginning of a new relationship for both of us. We never talked about it, it just started. He took every opportunity to kiss me and from kissing, it graduated to fondling. He was very gentle with me, so I never complained. I enjoyed being with him, but I felt guilty about it, especially because of my Aunty. He used to try to touch me intimately or take my clothes off and I always refused. To me, kissing was enough.

My refusal didnt stop him, though. He would beg and beg to touch my skin instead of my clothes, etc, and I would refuse, so he would settle to kissing, and I thought it was okay until the next day, when the same thing would repeat itself. We kept on like that, for a long time. Infact, I stopped enjoying his kisses, because, they always came with demands.
Demands for more than I was ready to give. Aside from that, my conscience was judging me. I always thought about my Aunty and how she was good to me, yet, I kept repaying that good with evil; messing with her husband. My only problem was how to tell him that I wasnt into it anymore and that I wanted to get back to being Uncle and niece.

When life happens. Part 3👇

That fateful day was like any other day, Uncle wasnt going to work, so he stayed at home. Of course, one thing led to another and he began. We were in the sitting room, he started to try to force me to open up my shirt, and I got very angry and scared and managed to push him away and ran to my room. I had never had any reason to be scared of him, until that day.
Few minutes later, he came over, begging. He was sorry, he lost control, he loved me, he would never hurt me, etc. He sat by my door, begging for about an hour. He sounded like he regretted his actions, I felt bad for him, so I opened the door. (Biggest mistake of my life)

He hugged me and we sat on the bed. He told me that he didnt mean to attack me, but he had lost control, because, he loved me so much. I nodded, as he said all that he could say, but that hour was enough for me to make up my mind. I was through with whatever it was that we were doing and I couldnt betray my Aunty anymore. I told him all of that and I thanked him for loving me, but I pointed out, it was not right. He was my mother's sister's husband, so it would never be right. I was talking calmly, yet, he was getting angry. He started with denial, he refused to accept anything I was saying. He thought it was because of what he tried to do that morning and I tried to explain that it wasnt. I tried to explain softly, that I didnt like any of it and didnt want any of it. He was begging me to keep on and I was begging him to let go.

Suddenly, his mood changed from remorse to anger. He said I was ugly and that I should be happy that he had looked at me or touched me. He said that no man would ever want to be with me. He threw insults at me until I began to cry. I got up to leave my room, but I felt him drag me back. He held me in his arms, wiping my tears. Before I knew what was happening, he began to fondle me. I cried out and tried to pull away but he grabbed both my hands and he held them with his left, then locked the door shut with his right and pushed me onto the bed. I begged and begged, but he didnt listen. Over and over, he kept sayin, "How dare you push me away? Dont you know how much I love you? Dont you?". He tore my top away and he pulled my skirt up. I felt his hand roughly handling different parts of my body.

When life happens. Part 4👇

I cried from the beginning to the end. I didnt know what else to do. I stayed there, until he was done and as soon as he finished, he pushed me away in his bid to get up. Do you know his next words to me? "All that noise for nothing. You are not even that sweet". He tossed me aside like a piece of paper, before he opened the door and walked out of my room.
I cried and cried, sitting on the floor and looking at the blood stain on the bed. I didnt recover, until I heard him leave, to pick the children up from school, hours later. Even the sound of his horn, when he came back, was not enough to pull me up. I managed to get to my door, to lock it up.

My baby cousins came around, begging me to open up, my brother did the same, and I cried all through. When my Aunty came back, I managed to answer her, my excuse was my period.
After that day, I became withdrawn. I didnt laugh and play like I used to. The bastard began to avoid me completely. He never said anything to me, except he was forced, and he never looked at my face. Six to eight months later, my papers came through, and I left Nigeria.

I only came back 3years ago. I havent said a word or seen that man since then. Neither will I, ever. No one in my family knows anything, though, I feel my Aunty may have suspected somethings, because, she looks at me and I see regret in her eyes. I am engaged to be married to my first boyfriend, that I met at 27. It took a lot to get to this place and he knows it all. He doesnt judge me. He knows it wasnt my fault.
